When a theater company applies for the rights to a show, they are not GUARANTEED the rights until they’ve paid for them. Therefore, they aren’t allowed to promote the show, or even announce it in any way.

Well, we’ve applied for the rights to a show. This show is such a certified winner that we have been sworn to secrecy, even AFTER we get the rights, from telling anyone in the Boston area about our show. We can’t even post the information to websites, except our own! shh

Why are we agreeing to go along with this crazy, covert, weird musical stuff? Well, because who wouldn’t want to be a part of a top-secret show? Also, clearly, the show is just THAT GOOD.

If you believe that we have good taste in material, or you just like that there is a southern New Hampshire company refusing to stage anything but high-quality, lesser-known musicals that you just wouldn’t be able to see anywhere else, we need your help.

After a short break to recoup, and after the realization that we need to allow a bit more prep time before transferring [title of show], we are starting work on our original show, scheduled to open in the fall, and beginning to plan the upcoming season. We’re hoping to perform 2-3 shows each, plus occasional fundraisers/cabarets/events, and in addition we’re hoping to offer more workshops and in-school residencies. Stay tuned and as always, feel free to share your suggestions and feedback!

Just a quick note that momentum is building for our trip to Boston! $1,100 has been committed in funds already, and we’re ramping up our fundraising plans to help everyone get involved, whether you have $5 to contribute or $500. Visit our NYMMT to Boston page for more information, and keep checking back for updates. Any suggestions and contributions, as always, are welcome!

Happy Valentine’s Day, theatregoers! NYMMT has a variety of projects at the moment. Yesterday, some of us led an interactive murder mystery at Bentley Commons (with the help of their very talented staff) and were treated to some delicious food and dessert while we worked there. The Musical of Musicals: The Musical! is being remounted, for one, FREE night only, at Hillsboro-Deering High School in Hillsboro, New Hampshire. The information will be listed under Coming Attractions any day now, but in the meantime you can save the date of this hilarious show (worth the trip since it’s free) by marking your calendars for Friday, March 25th, at 7:30 PM.

In addition, NYMMT is working to secure more funding to remount [title of show] in the near future. If you, or anyone that you know, might be interested in helping us produce this show, or in sponsoring it, please email us at notyourmoms@gmail.com. Meanwhile, we’re also at work planning what the rest of our season might look like.

And most importantly-Marc Murai, winner of the [title of video blog] raffle at [title of show], has chosen a very worthy subject for our next video blog. The National Endowment for the Arts, which provides arts grants (almost half of which are delivered by the states themselves) to communities in every state, is facing massive cuts if we do not contact our representatives now. Please watch our video to learn more, and then use the simple website listed at the end of the video to fill out a tiny form and contact your representatives. (The link is only evident if you watch it on youtube, so we’ll list the link here as well below the video.) If you can spare a couple of minutes, please do. Theaters and schools across the country will thank you.

Spread some love this Valentine’s Day! And thanks for supporting us.

Not Your Mom’s Musical Theater is busy multi-tasking this week. We’ve got folks building signs and making costumes, creating new posters and sending press releases, and of course, rehearsing non-stop for [title of show]! Ticket sales are picking up (Saturday January 22nd at 7 PM is the most popular so far) so we suggest you choose a date and buy your tickets, as the show is next weekend and the following weekend only! Although this show is at the Derryfield School, it is NOT in the big auditorium-it’s in the Lyceum, which is a lecture hall in the Upper School building, and it only seats 70 chairs and 6 standing room only customers. So please reserve your tickets now (they’ll be held at Will Call for you at the door) to save yourself the chance of us selling out and you missing out on this show.

Thank you as always for supporting our quirky, affordable musical theater model. We couldn’t do it without you!

Not Your Mom’s Musical Theater is thrilled to announce it will be presenting the NH Premiere of [title of show] in January of 2010! The hilarious and talented cast of The Musical of Musicals: The Musical! returns to the stage with NYMMT, this time at the Lyceum (120 seat) space of the Derryfield School, to perform this hilarious, moving, and self-aware musical about two people writing a musical about two people writing a musical. This show is for 18+ audiences due to very frank and explicit language. Come spend a fun (and inspiring!) evening as the cast tells the true story of two nobodies in New York who write a show in three weeks and take it to the New York Musical Theater Festival, Off-Broadway, and eventually Broadway, all with only four chairs and a keyboard.

3 Performances only! January 22nd at 7 pm and 9 pm at the Derryfield Schools’ Lyceum space (not the big auditorium), as well as January 28th at 8 pm. Tickets will be available on this website within the next month, and sponsors, advertisers, and producers are still sought for this production. Mark your calendars and come join us! Email notyourmoms@gmail.com to get on board or with any questions.

Here’s our first video blog! We’ll be posting weekly or so once rehearsals begin.

A last thought for the day-auditions are tomorrow (Friday the 22nd) for our Christmas Spectacular. Hope to see you there!
