Not Your Mom’s Musical Theatre presents the critically-acclaimed, innovative, edgy off-Broadway musical See What I Wanna See, which presents three stories that consider truth vs. fiction and different people’s version of the truth. This show has adult themes (murder, sex, and occasional language) and is recommended for mature audiences only.
What IS the truth? Is it my version, your version, your neighbor’s version? We all see things differently and put our own personal spin on events. The slightest perspective shift can rewrite a whole story and how you feel about the characters. Here (at the NH Premiere of the off-Broadway musical See What I Wanna See) you will get to see three stories, each with several different perspectives on the events…and that includes your own. The “Overture” and “Entr’acte” are two sides of a relationship that is about to come to an end. The Act 1 story is several different versions of how a
man died in Central Park. And Act 2 is one man’s reaction to a tragedy, as well as how the tragedy (and his subsequent actions) affects the people around him. In each tale, all based on short stories by Ryunosuke Akutagawa, we use varying levels of traditional Japanese Kabuki and Noh theatre elements: stylized movement, scenery, and, of course, the music.

What the critics had to say in NYC:
“SEE WHAT I WANNA SEE is a little powerhouse of a show whose sheer intensity will knock you flat” —Wall Street Journal. “Mr. LaChiusa delivers songs that strike at the heart…the notions of truth and belief are extended to a cosmic level. “—NY Times. “SEE WHAT I WANNA SEE has all the music you’d want from Broadway—cool jazz and all-purpose pop—loaded with some of the most succinct, precise, sexually frank lyrics I’ve heard in musical theater.” —Philadelphia Inquirer. “An intelligent, adult musical that entertains and astonishes at the same time…This smoky, sexy saga enhanced by LaChiusa’s muscular, jazzy score, flecked with Japanese influences and tough, punchy lyrics, makes SEE WHAT I WANNA SEE a highly original, even innovative journey.” —Associated Press. “Sassily innovative, consistently tantalizing and insidiously memorable” —Bloomberg.com.
