NYMMT is delighted to announce our fall mainstage musical! We’ll be bringing LaChiusa’s critically-acclaimed, sexy, edgy and provocative musical See What I Wanna See, which is based on three short stories by Japanese author Akutagawa including Rashomon. Visit here to see how to get involved, and mark your calendar for October 26-November 2.
AND a reminder –
May 6 is Part Two in our concert series! Hope to see you there!

Not Your Mom’s Musical Theater is thrilled to present the NH premiere of the sexy, edgy and provocative musical See What I Wanna See. With music and lyrics by Michael John LaChuisa ( The Wild Party, Marie Christine, Bernarda Alba, etc.), it is based on three short stories, including the inspiration for the movie Rashomon, written by Japanese author Ryunosuke Akutagawa. The show explores themes of truth, such as how one person’s truth isn’t the same as another’s, and how a fiction can become a truth, or a truth become a fiction. Off-Broadway in 2005, the show calls for 3 men and 2 women with doubling, although the cast may be expanded. Its off-Broadway production featured Mark Kudisch, Idina Menzel, Mary Testa, Aaron Lohr and Henry Stram.

The show will be performed at Milly’s Tavern (in the back room) in Manchester, NH. Show dates are October 26-28 and Nov. 2. All roles are available, and expanding the cast (i.e. no doubling) may be considered.

What the critics had to say in NYC:

“SEE WHAT I WANNA SEE is a little powerhouse of a show whose sheer intensity will knock you flat” —Wall Street Journal. “Mr. LaChiusa delivers songs that strike at the heart…the notions of truth and belief are extended to a cosmic level. “—NY Times. “SEE WHAT I WANNA SEE has all the music you’d want from Broadway—cool jazz and all-purpose pop—loaded with some of the most succinct, precise, sexually frank lyrics I’ve heard in musical theater.” —Philadelphia Inquirer. “An intelligent, adult musical that entertains and astonishes at the same time…This smoky, sexy saga enhanced by LaChiusa’s muscular, jazzy score, flecked with Japanese influences and tough, punchy lyrics, makes SEE WHAT I WANNA SEE a highly original, even innovative journey.” —Associated Press. “Sassily innovative, consistently tantalizing and insidiously memorable” —Bloomberg.com. “A typically smart work from Michael John LaChiusa, SEE WHAT I WANNA SEE is a must-see.” —Star-Ledger.
