Time and Date: TBA

Audition Location:

Appletree Business Services (next to Phantom Fireworks), 15 Londonderry Rd., Londonderry

Not Your Mom’s Musical Theater is back for 2015 with auditions for its ground-breaking concert series. The series kicks off with Something Wonderful I Missed: The Musicals of 1965, which will feature selections from the 1965 musical theater season, fifty years ago. Strong singers and emcees are sought to join the concert cast for this season. Concerts are emceed by actors and comedians who illustrate the often ridiculous and always interesting history of the songs.

The series chronicles lesser-known songs and musicals in a funny and engaging way, and concerts are Sundays at 4 p.m. at the historic Derry Opera House in Derry. Full schedule is here.

Auditionees should prepare two memorized, contrasting selections from musical theater (32 bars max each) that show the variety of styles they are capable of, and should bring a resume and sheet music if possible. If performers are unable to attend auditions, please email notyourmoms@gmail.com with a letter of interest and resume. No appointment necessary. Auditionees can audition for 1 or as many as all 5 concerts.

NYMMT also offers a touring presentation that is customizable for schools and communities. A few of its most versatile singers offer a variety of concerts and workshops. Auditionees will be considered for this group as well, which tours across NH and New England and has even been featured internationally. While the concerts in Derry are unpaid, touring artists receive a small stipend for their work.

Not Your Mom’s Musical Theater is known for producing lesser-known, innovative and edgy musical theater in southern NH. Recent productions have included Zombie Prom, Weird Romance, See What I Wanna See, and Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson. The concert series is co-presented with the Greater Derry Arts Council and is in partnership with the Arts Alliance of Northern New Hampshire.

NYMMT prides itself on presenting quality, affordable entertainment unavailable elsewhere in NH. With this concert series, NYMMT is able to entertain and inspire its audiences in new ways while offering entertainment without a price barrier. This concert series is appropriate for all audiences and admission is by suggested donation.

      What is the age range?

      • Great question, Stacy. We’re actually considering all ages for these concerts, but we anticipate the majority of roles being filled by adults or possibly high school students. We will be customizing our song list based on who auditions, so in particular concerts we may want a young person or two to be able to sing certain roles.
